Larry Broderick

A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Aspen Hall in Shevlin Park in Bend for Larry Broderick of Bend, formerly of Eugene, who died Sept. 9 of complications from cancer treatment. He was 67.

He was born Aug. 10, 1942, in Eugene to Charles and Margaret Bennett Broderick. He married Corinne Abendroth on March 23, 1969, in Eugene.

He graduated from Pleasant Hill High School and earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Oregon. He managed restaurants in the Eugene area before moving to Bend, where he was director of human resources at St. Charles Medical Center. He opened his own labor relations consulting business in 1980.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jeff Broderick of Portland; two daughters, Melissa Eaton and Becky Boyd, both of Bend; two brothers, Pat Broderick of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Bob Broderick of Eugene; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements by Onoranze Funebri Toscane S.P.A., in Italy. Remembrances to the St. Charles Foundation or the High Desert Museum historical collections, both in Bend.

Robert C. Kulp, 41, of 2358 Mountain Road, Manheim, died Saturday in Manheim, after an illness of two years.

Born in Lancaster, he was a son of Charles G. and Fay Dennis Kulp.

Kulp was a welder for Highland Tank and Manufacturing Company, Manheim.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in the Philippines.

He was a member of the Hope Episcopal Church, Mount Hope.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Helen Dennis, of Manheim; two brothers, Thomas J. Kulp, of Mount Joy, and L. Scott Kulp, of Manheim; and two sisters, Barbara, wife of Robert Fegley, of Northumberland, and Lydia, wife of Jeffrey Engle, of Manheim.

Justina M. Fink, 62, of 28 Spencer Ave., died Friday morning at Hershey Medical Center after a brief illness.

Mrs. Fink was a pharmacy technician at York County Home and Hospital for 14 years.
She was a member of Women of the Moose Lodge 767 and the auxiliary of Lancaster Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1690.

Born in Conestoga, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Florence M. Kellish Murry.

She was married to Russell S. Fink Jr.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Cindy L., married to Karl E. Gochnauer of Mountville; a son, Michael A., married to Kimberly A. Sears of Lancaster; two grandchildren; and four sisters, Rose M., married to Lamar A. Dixon of Landisville, Florence M. Murry of Salunga, Barbara A., married to Stanley J. Kozela of North East, Md., and Carol E., married to James Thompson of Bowie, Md.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Diane Sears.

Sandy Wolfe, 50, Manheim resident

Sandy K. Wolfe, 50, of 44 S. Grant St., Manheim, died Sunday at home after a brief illness.

She was the wife of the Rev. Dewey B. Wolfe. On Sept. 15 they celebrated their 32nd anniversary.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of Isabel E. Fichthorn Witman of Manheim and the late Lester F. Witman.

She was a 1962 graduate of Manheim Central High School. She was a hostess/cashier for Kreider's Family Restaurant in Manheim for about 10 years.

She was a member of New Beginnings Tabernacle in Manheim, where her husband was the pastor.

Surviving besides her husband and mother are a son, Timothy S. Wolfe of Mount Joy; a daughter, Lisa M. Groff of Manheim; five grandchildren; two brothers, Larry G. and Gary L. Witman, both of Manheim; and three sisters, Linda J., wife of Preston Hilton of Manheim, Susan E. McDonald of Manheim and Peggy J., wife of Steven McFeat of Millersville.

Preston L. Hilton, 57, Manheim

Preston L. Hilton, 57, of 46 Crescent Drive, Manheim, died Tueday at home after a long illness. Mr. Hilton worked for Armstrong World Industries until his illness. Earlier, he worked more than 20 years for the former Raymark Industries, Manheim. Known to his family and friends as "Flip,'' he was a member of the 1961 New Era Junior Midget Baseball Tournament championship team and enjoyed hunting and playing the guitar.
Born in Manheim, he was the son of Betty Duncan Hilton Gibble of Manheim and the late Kermit Hilton. He was married 35 years in February to Linda J. Witman Hilton. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two sons, Michael K., husband of Doris Hilton of Manheim, and Daniel L., husband of Kimberly Hilton, address unknown; three grandsons; and a brother, Curtis of Manheim.

Shirley L. Sutton, 69, Tremont, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, at her residence.

Born in Miners Village, May 5, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Willard and Luella Witman Lehman.

She was retired from the former J.E. Morgan, Williamstown.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Tremont.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Jacqueline Rumpf, and by an infant son.

Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Harvey Sutton; two sons, William, Schuylkill Haven, and Herman, Orwin; a stepson, Harvey Sutton III, Pine Grove; a stepdaughter, Patricia Withelder, Zerbe; three sisters, Nancy Kipp, Lebanon, Gloria Umberger, Lavelle, and Teri Brown, Lebanon; two brothers, Willard Lehman, Palmyra, and Robert Lehman, Lebanon; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

Wife: Taunts caused slaying // Police say woman charged in Saturday shooting death claims husband was verbally abusive

LEBANON -- A 38-year-old woman told police she shot her husband three times in their isolated Union Twp. trailer home because he repeatedly called her and her children names, according to court papers.

Lottie Snavely, 38, of Gold Mine Road, Union Twp., was charged with criminal homicide following the shooting of her husband, Bertram, 61, about 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Bertram Snavely was shot in the head and the upper left chest. He died at 11:23 p.m. Saturday at Hershey Medical Center.

Lottie Snavely told state police at Jonestown that she picked up a gun and pointed it at her husband hoping to stop his verbal abuse.

Bertram Snavely, she said, would repeatedly call her and her 17-year-old daughter insulting names.

In an affidavit of probable cause, police said Lottie Snavely told them the following story:

'Today I had gotten up and was out in the kitchen table playing solitaire. He came out to the kitchen and also sat at the table. He started on me again, belittling me and my children.'

Following an argument, Bertram got up from his seat, and Lottie Snavely said, 'I thought he was going to hit me. I walked back to the bedroom to get away from him.

'When I reached the end of the bed, I don't know why, but I thought about the gun. He always keeps a loaded gun -- a black revolver -- under his pillow.

'I took the gun and walked out to the kitchen with it. I wanted to scare him. I thought if he saw me with the gun he would shut up. I held the gun out with both hands and said, 'Shut up, Bert.'

'He said, 'You fat ugly whore -- put that away.' I fired a shot hoping to scare him. I don't think I pointed that gun at him.'

Lottie Snavely said Bertram called her a 'S.O.B.' and she fired a second shot, hitting him on the left side of his chest.

'He continued to 'yack' at me so I fired a third shot,' Lottie Snavely told police. 'He had been sitting down at the end of the table when I started shooting. After the third shot he fell to the floor.'

Snavely said she remembered yelling at him 'that I was sorry and why couldn't he just leave me alone.'

Police said the only other person in the home at the time was Lottie Snavely's 17-year-old daughter, who was listening to music in her room.

The teen told police said she heard three gunshots.

'I got up, turned off my radio and my mother knocked on my door,' the report quotes the daughter as saying. 'I asked her what happened and she said that she shot him, Bertram. When I walked out Bertram was laying facedown on the kitchen floor.

'She kept asking me what she should do, so I told her that she needed to call for an ambulance.'

The daughter said her mother didn't want to call for an ambulance because she was afraid she would go to jail.

Lottie Snavely then called her sister, Doris, who came to the trailer and made the 911 call.

State police at Jonestown, who are investigating the shooting, would not comment yesterday about whether they had been called to any prior domestic incidents at the Snavely residence.

Lottie Snavely was arraigned before District Justice Thomas Capello about 2 a.m. Sunday. She is being held in Lebanon County Prison without bail.

John Hayden Gray, Sr., 29, of Berkeley Springs died Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at his home.

Born February 13, 1976 in Lansing, Mich., he was the son of the late George Edward and Sarah Ann Ditzler Gray.

He was a member of the Faith in God Chapel, Berkeley Springs.

He attended Berkeley Springs High School and worked as a climber, second class, with the Asplundh Company. He liked fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Jean Kuykendall Gray, at home; one daughter, Tiffany Nicole Gray; three sons, John Hayden Gray, Jr., David Matthew Gray and Brandon Lee Walker Gray, all of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Georgia Ann Honke, Charlotte, Mich. and Anna Betty Gloyd, Berkeley Springs; four brothers, Abraham Edward Gray, Pikesville, Pa., Larry Lee Gray and James Irving Gray, both of Lansing, Mich., and David Robert Gray, Berkeley Springs; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, December 3 at Faith in God Chapel, Berkeley Springs, with Pastor Ken Dyar officiating. Interment private.

Obituary: Anna S. Ulrich, 91, of Audubon Villa Nursing Home, Lititz, died Tuesday evening at the home after an illness of five months.
Formerly of 529 Rome Road, Lititz, she had been a resident at Audubon Villa for four years. She was the wife of the late Ammon S. Ulrich, who died in 1980.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Penryn. Mrs. Ulrich was also a former member of the Lititz Fire Company auxiliary.
She enjoyed crocheting and tatting.
Born in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Hettie L. Shelley Hilton.
Surviving are a daughter, Margaret P. Weller, Mohnton; two sons, Russell E. and Bruce K., both of Lititz; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

A homemaker, she was the widow of John J. Weller.
Born in Warwick Township, she was the daughter of the late Ammon and Anna Hilton Ulrich.
She is survived by three sons, Nevin D. Weit, Lancaster, and Barry L. Weit and Randy L. Weit, both of Lititz; a daughter, Karen Mullis, Mohnton; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bruce Ulrich, Lititz.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Russell E. Ulrich.
